Are you in the right job for you?

You may have been in your job for so long that you no longer know whether it is the right job for you or not. If you are unsure, try asking yourself the following questions.

1.      Are other people around you much happier than you are?

2.      Do you think the employment suits your temperament?

3.      Are you good at handling people or would you rather be ‘tinkering’ with things and objects?

4.      Are you doing the job just because it is secure? Security is all very well, but it can also be a trap whereby you are held in a job you hate and denied the excitement of finding work in an area that you would find more fulfilling.

5.      What is it you loathe about your job and what is it you love about your hobbies and past times? Could you find a more satisfying job working in those areas related to your real loves?

If you still have any doubts about whether you are in the right job, keep a stress diary, making a note of all the things that make you fed up, depressed or anxious. Then consider exploring other career opportunities by talking to occupational consultants, or simply looking around at what others are doing.
